Vision

BIOS will be the most important technology development center in the nation in the areas of Biotechnology and Data Science, being the main ally of the actors of the STI ecosystem in the generation of knowledge and technology transfer of high impact. Infrastructure

  • HPC Cluster High Performance Computing, or HPC, is the answer to the high volumes of information available to solve complex problems faced by today's organizations and institutions. High performance computers such as the one at the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology - BIOS, combine high capacities and performance with highly specialized human talent. In the era of Big Data, it is essential to have a large data processing infrastructure, since it becomes not only an ally of research in Colombia, but also a strategic asset of national interest.


History

  • In 2007, Bill Gates visited Colombia. As a conclusion of his visit it was clear that it was necessary to take advantage of the Colombian megadiversity through a high level research center in the country to develop and take advantage of its great potential in the fields of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. This idea was aimed at achieving the national government's objectives in innovation and economic development, so in 2008 its creation began, thanks to a cooperation agreement between Colciencias and MinTic.
